چکیده

Electronic Product Catalogues are the basis for offering and selling products in online market places. To be efficient, these catalogues have to provide a semantically precise description of product features to allow for effective matchmaking of products and customer requests. At the same time, the description has to follow a common terminology that allows the integration with the catalogues of other providers on the same market place. In this paper, we argue for the use of ontologies as a basis for defining product catalogues. More precisely, we suggest using eClassOWL, an ontological model of the eClass Standard as a basis for encoding product information as formal class descriptions in the web ontology language OWL. We support our argument by presenting an ontology based implementation of a real product catalogue that uses eClass terminology and supports flexible matchmaking based on approximate logical reasoning.

Multimedia Information Extraction in Ontology-based Semantic Annotation of Product Catalogues

—The demand for efficient methods for extracting knowledge from multimedia content has led to a growing research community investigating the convergence of multimedia and knowledge technologies. In this paper we describe a methodology for extracting multimedia information from product catalogues empowered by the synergetic use and extension of a domain ontology. The methodology was implemented ...

Ontology-based Support for Variability Management in Product and Service Families

Product/service family engineering, which encourages the development of a common product platform, plays a key role in facilitating large-scale and planned reuse in the development of customized products. In product family designs, managing points of variability is critical to achieve product variety. Variation points are points at which one among the several possible variations of a feature of...

Ontology Learning and Semantic Annotation: a Necessary Symbiosis

Semantic annotation of text requires the dynamic merging of linguistically structured information and a “world model”, usually represented as a domain-specific ontology. On the other hand, the process of engineering a domain ontology through semi-automatic ontology learning system requires the availability of a considerable amount of semantically annotated documents. Facing this bootstrapping p...

Concept Exchange: Constructing Interoperable Electronic Product Catalogues in an Emergent Environment

Research in interoperability of electronic product catalogues has primarily focused on resolving semantic conflicts arisen from the heterogeneously designed electronic product catalogues. We argue that while existing integration strategies providing static connections between various heterogeneous catalogues over mediating ontologies, ontologies themselves exhibit heterogeneity and lack of evol...

Web Service Oriented Standard Product Library

Using standard components or modules is vital in product design, development and manufacturing. The current book type catalogues and those, in the form of electronic files together with CAD drawings distributed on disks or via web-based publication systems, can not meet industry requirements for collaborative engineering. Ideally, users could source competitive offers from different vendors and...
